Valentine Treat: A Bouquet of Strawberry Creme Suckers

My cutie pie son, Dawson asked me last week what he should do for his 'friend' for Valentine's Day. They have been dating a little while, but not too long and he wanted to do something simple and not too over-the-top. I suggested making Valentine suckers and putting them in a little pot. He liked the idea of making something himself, so that's what we did.

Heart Shaped Strawberry Creme Suckers in a Pot

Supplies Needed:

ceramic flower pot
some kind of stuff to put inside to hold the sucker sticks in place (we used the green stuff that makes such a mess when you cut it apart, but is nice because you can cut it to any size you want)
sucker/cookie-on-a-stick pan (the one I have is made by Wilton and I bought it several years ago. Maybe you can find it on their website)
non-stick cooking spray
Creme Saver candy (10 pieces per sucker). I like these best although you could use almost any hard candy. The swirls in these candies make such fun suckers though.
long sucker sticks
candy bags (to cover suckers)
ribbon (to tie on candy bag)

We got the pot at Hobby Lobby (which was 50% off, so only $3. Score!). We got the candy at candydirect.com (we couldn't find Creme Savers anywhere in the stores in our town, so we ordered).

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Spray cookie/sucker pan with non-stick cooking spray
3. Unwrap and arrange 10 candies in each heart shaped sucker spot on the pan
4. Bake for approximately 11 minutes (until all candies are melted)
5. Remove from oven and immediately add sticks. You want your stick to go pretty high up into the sucker for stability. Place your stick and then gently roll until it is covered in candy. Do this to all suckers on the pan.
6. Place pan in fridge for about 5-8 minutes
7. Remove from fridge and carefully lift out of pan
8. With a dry paper towel, wipe of any remaining cooking spray from sucker
9. Put sucker in candy bag and tie with a ribbon
10. Arrange in pot if desired

Have fun making suckers! These are great for Valentine's Day, birthdays, to tell someone you love them, to take to a friend in the hospital, and so much more. I used to make them all the time but haven't in a few years. I'm glad Dawson helped me remember this fun project and that he and I could spend some time making them together.

Happy day before Valentine's Day! I hope you have big plans with your sweetie tomorrow. We did our big date this past weekend since Dawson has a basketball game tomorrow night and also due to the fact that I am feeding the basketball team tomorrow. Should be fun!

By the way, we went to see "The Vow" and "Man on a Ledge" this weekend and I loved them both. Yes, we are movie lovers and a mini-movie marathon was our idea of a fun Valentine date. Yes, we are boring. I'm okay with that. ;0)

Today I thought I'd share another project that I have created to go with the "Lucy" display I am making for several members of my team. You can read about that in my last post. Don't worry...their layouts don't have my photos on them. The one you are seeing here is the one I created for myself. It features photos we took the day before I left Chicago of my beautiful mom, my beautiful daughter, my beautiful granddaughter, and me. Here are a few close ups. Also, check out the supply list below for a few explanations on how I used some products.

CTMH products used: Lucy Level 2 Paper Pack, Lucy WOTG Stamp Set, Hodge Podge Alphabet Stamp Set, Grey Wool Stamp Pad, Blush Stamp Pad (not only did I use this to stamp the flowers, but I also used it to sponge color on the dimensional element letters), Creme Brulee Stamp Pad, Sparkle Flourishes, Clear Sparkles, Liquid Glass (applied on the flowers as adhesive for the glitter), Prisma Glitter (on flowers, adhered with liquid glass), Dimensional Elements Monograms (G, I, R, L and S), Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint (I painted the dimensional element letters lightly with this after I sponged them with the Blush pad), CTMH/Cricut Art Philosphy Cartridge (for big scalloped circle and for the flowers), 3D Foam Tape.

I LOVE Mondays because it is the day that we receive our weekly email from our missionary son, Tannon who is serving in Granada, Spain currently. Along with today's email came a couple of photos. I love seeing how happy Tannon looks while spending these two years (only 7 more months!) serving the Lord in Spain.

All Occassion Card: "Happy Thoughts"

I am working on a big project this week. Each year in May and November I offer a challenge to my Close To My Heart team. Anyone who sells $2000 or more that month gets a complete display board from me featuring one of the new kits in the Idea Book (November's challenge is filled in February when the Spring/Summer book goes live, and the May challenge is filled in August when the Autumn/Winter book goes live). It's a lot of work on my part, but so much fun to think of each team member who accomplished the challenge as I make each work of art. I love my job! Come join my team so you can earn one! As promised, I'm back again today with a little creativity to share. It feels good to be home and back in the swing of my regular routine, although every time I look at a photo from my 3 weeks in Chicago, my heart aches. It was fun to get home last night and have Dan and Dawson have the whole house clean (minus a clean cat box...ugh!) and take me out to dinner. I missed them so much!

I made this card using the wonderful Close To My Heart February Stamp of the Month. This set is called "Thoughtful Tidings" and is full of great sentiments. Most of them have corresponding shapes on the CTMH/Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge (a MUST HAVE for any paper crafter!). I think my favorite sentiment in the set is "You touch so many lives". How would you like to receive a card that said that? I know it would mean a lot to me!

This card was inspired by this card that I saw on Pinterest. Don't you just love Pinterest for inspiration?

I am so happy to be home again to Dan-the-Man and Dawson but I am already missing Kori, Rick, Daci and the babies (Livvi and Street) so much it hurts.

Operation Smile Mission Trip

I hope you'll take the time to read today's post. This is something that is amazing that I would love to share with each of you.

Close To My Heart has been a large contributor to Operation Smile for years. I love this charity and the amazing life-changing acts it performs. There have even been years when, just by asking my customers to round up their purchase total to the next dollar, we have collectively paid for one whole surgery. It's that easy!

Baby Gift Tags with Close To My Heart's January Stamp of the Month and NEW BABIES!

They're here! They're here! They're here! The twins are officially HERE!

Yesterday was a miraculous day and I was so honored to be there with Kori and Rick. Livvi Maren (on the left) entered the world at 1:16 pm and weighed in at 6 lbs. 3 oz. and was 19" long. Street Frederick (on the right) followed 9 minutes later at 1:25 pm, weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz. and was 19 1/2" long.

Excuse the blurry photo. Grandma Karen (that would be me) brought all her camera stuff and forgot her camera card. I didn't just leave it at Kori and Rick's house...I left it on my desk in Utah. UGH! Thankfully my daughter was trained well (even though her mother is forgetful) and had everything needed in her camera bag and we got some beautiful pictures. I will share those when they are home from the hospital and I have access to those photos. This one will have to suffice in the meantime. It's pretty sad because I had to take it with my cell phone. I think you can still tell how beautiful the babies are. I'm in love!

You should have seen sweet little Daci as she met them for the first time. Precious! She colored them each a picture and couldn't wait to give them to her brand new brother and sister. Her mommy and daddy presented her with a beautiful little necklace that had two charms on it; one said "Daci" and the other said "Big Sister." She felt so special.

I made these little gift tags to go on the outfits I bought Livvi and Street with the wonderful January Stamp of the Month. I have had so much fun playing with this set.

Chicago at night

This is it. Today is the day! WOO HOO! Today is the day that I get to fly to Chicago to be there for our daughter and her hubby to help with Daci and the twins, who will be making their grand entrance into the world any day now. Wasn't it kind of them to wait for me to get there? I'm so excited. I'm even more excited that my mom is coming to help too...four generations all together! I just wish Dan-the-Man could have come too, but someone had to stay home and work. I'm glad it wasn't me. lol.

It would have also been so much fun if my grandmother could have joined us. Can you believe we have five generations still living? Amazing, I think. Here is photo of the five generations when Daci was just a few months old. I hope that we will be able to get another 5 generation photo before the twins get too old!

February Play Group Projects: Layouts with Elemental

Before you start reading, be sure you check out Wednesday's post here to see all of the Close To My Heart products that will be retiring on January 31. Be sure to get your favorites before they are gone!

I know February Play Group Classes are still a bit of time away (Feb. 21 or Feb. 23) but I am about to head out to Chicago for a few weeks to help my daughter with her twins (which should be arriving any day now) and wanted to be sure and have this post up before I left. You can still reach me by phone and email while I'm gone. Don't take this as an invitation to come and rob my home. There will still be people here. So there!

On to the Play Group Information: You can participate in person at one of my classes, long-distance, or host a class of your own...I need to hear from you no later than Wednesday, February 15 if you want to participate). We will be making three 2-page 12" x 12" layouts that are so versatile they can be used for almost anything. Just change the titles to whatever fits your photos! Here are the layouts (click on any photo to see it larger and in more detail). I've shared the details of the class, the kits, and how to participate after the photos. In February we are using the oh-so-versatile kit called "Elemental"for our three 2-page 12" x 12" layouts.

Class Dates and Times to choose from:
Tuesday, Feb. 21, 10 am - 1 pm (this class is in American Fork, UT)
Thursday, Feb. 21, 10 am -1 pm (this class is in American Fork, UT)
Thursday, Feb. 23, 7-10 pm (this class is in Pleasant Grove, UT)

You can also host this workshop in your home (in Utah) with your friends during the month of February and earn FREE hostess rewards (free CTMH shopping spree!) while you do it. If you are interested in doing that, please contact me (801.360,9896, pedermom@aol.com) and I'll give you all the details.

You can also participate in this workshop long-distance. If you choose to do so, just add $5 to the cost of whichever kit you choose for the extra shipping. I suggest if you are participating long-distance that you at least order the "Better Kit", and any stamp pads we are using that you don't already have. If you participate long distance, I am happy to stamp the items using stamp sets that aren't in the kit for you since you probably won't have the stamp pads and alphabet stamp (unless you order the "Best Kit"). That is my little gift to you if you participate long-distance.

Remember, in order to attend, you only need to purchase the Basic Kit. Anything above and beyond that is totally up to you. This month, I suggest you consider the Better Kit. The few items I've added there make a huge difference to your pages. If you already have any of the items in the Better or Best kits, just bring them with you to class.

Celebrate Life Layout: Close To My Heart's January Stamp of the Month

How 'bout this layout? My friend and talented downline, Nicole Norris created it for a swap we had on my team for this month's Stamp of the Month. I love this set and am having so much fun playing with it. I'm also excited that I can share artwork from several of my team members with you this month.

I just love the poem that Nicole included on this layout. I think I will have to use it again. I plan to fill this layout with photos of my daughter, Kori's new twins when they arrive any day now. I AM SO EXCITED TO MEET THEM! Yes, I'm yelling. I just can't help myself. Here she is in a photo that was taken just over a week ago. I think she looks beautiful. Valentine Card with the January Stamp of the Month

As I was playing with this month's awesome Close To My Heart Stamp of the Month (Little Reminder), it occurred to me that it would make a GREAT Valentine card. Thus, this card was born.

I love Valentine's Day and all the pink and red and hearts and fluffy ribbon that go with it. I had so much fun creating this little bugger. In fact, I liked it so much I made lots of them.

Here's a close up of the main accent so that you can see better how it looks in 3D...no 3D glasses needed.

I was also pretty excited to see that it fit the challenge this week at the City Crafter Challenge Blog. Neat-o, Cheet-o!

I sat down this week and put together some simple thank you cards to send to family and friends who gave gifts to my family and me for Christmas. They came together really quickly and I enjoyed making them. I am so blessed with so many people in my life who do so much for me and my family.

I was inspired by a simple, yet beautiful card I saw on Pinterest last week made by Susan Riahala. Here's Susan's card.

I also decided to use my friend, Shari's motto of "use what you have" when I made these cards (thanks, Shari!). I went through my stash of retired Close To My Heart papers and found the notebook patterned paper in an old kit called "Notebook". I loved that kit and hoarded it shamelessly. Now I have tons of it, and what better way to use it than to show gratitude, right? So, although the notebook printed paper is no longer available, pretty much everything else you see on the card is.

Winter Layouts: January Play Group (Wonderland)

It's not too late to sign up for my January Play Group classes (in person or long-distance, or host a class of your own...I need to hear from you no later than Friday, December 30 if you want to participate). We will be making three 2-page 12" x 12" layouts that will give you a head start on scrapping this year's (or last year's...lol) Wintery photos. You can also host this workshop in your home (in Utah) with your friends during the month of January and earn FREE hostess rewards (free CTMH shopping spree!) while you do it. If you are interested in doing that, please contact me (801.360,9896, pedermom@aol.com) and I'll give you all the details.

You can also participate in this workshop long-distance. If you choose to do so, just add $5 to the cost of whichever kit you choose for the extra shipping. I suggest if you are participating long-distance that you at least order the "Better Kit". If you participate long distance, I am happy to stamp for you since you probably won't have the stamp pads and alphabet stamp (unless you order the "Best Kit"). That is my little gift to you if you participate long-distance.

Remember, in order to attend, you only need to purchase the Basic Kit. Anything above and beyond that is totally up to you. This month, I suggest you consider the Better Kit. The few items I've added there make a huge difference to your pages. If you already have any of the items in the Better or Best kits, just bring them with you to class.

Snowflake Sneaky Peeky

Yesterday I shared a little tutorial on how to make fluffy, sparkly snowflakes. I mentioned that the ones I made are going on a project I won't be sharing until January (mainly because it uses the January Stamp of the Month). I thought you might enjoy a little sneak peek of part of the project today. This photo was actually taken in good lighting (unlike the ones on yesterday's tutorial) so you can better see what the snowflake actually looks like. Enjoy!

Tutorial: Snowy, Glistening Chipboard Snowflakes

I am working on a little project that I won't be sharing until January, but in the meantime I thought I'd share a technique tutorial for part of what is going onto this project. Have you ever wondered how to make chipboard snowflakes look like real snow, right along with the glittery and puffy look that is naturally part of snow? Well, wonder no longer. Never fear, I am here to show you how!

The photos aren't the best (sorry!). I took them around evening time and the lighting was terrible. Even with my flash I couldn't quite get them to look great but hopefully they are good enough for you to get the gist.

Easy step-by-step instructions:

1. Start with a white chipboard snowflake. The one I used is from Close To My Heart's "Flurry Dimensional Element" collection You get a whole 9" x 12" sheet of white chipboard snowflakes, circles and stars (13 snowflake images, 19 round images, and 13 star images) for only $4.95!

2. Using Liquid Applique (again, from Close To My Heart), carefully "scribble" it onto the snowflake. Liquid glass goes a long way and is only $3.95 per tube.

3. Then sprinkle, immediately while the liquid applique is still wet, Close To My Heart's Prisma Glitter on top. I love prisma glitter. There are lots of glitters on the market but I haven't found one with grains as fine and iridescent as this one!

4. Use your heat gun to heat the snowflake until the liquid applique puffs up. Be sure to kind of 'wave' the gun as you heat so you don't scorch any spots. BEAUTIFUL!

Cards, Card Boxes (made with Close To My Heart's "Roxie" papers) and a Cookie Recipe

It's been a busy week preparing for Christmas! Whew! Fun though! Today I am sharing a few of my projects from the week. We'll start with the cards and card boxes. They were designed by my oh-so-talented friend and downline, Lynette Kankamp. I think she said she got some inspiration for the box from Melanie at Courtney Lane Designs. I appreciate the inspiration from both ladies. I tweaked a few things just a bit to put my own touch on them, but I would have been lost without Lynette's amazing designs. The box and almost every card feature the Cricut/CTMH Art Philosophy Cartridge and the AWESOME December Stamp of the Month (Mad About You).

I created a couple of these card boxes full of cards for a couple of people for Christmas. Hopefully they will enjoy having some Valentine cards already on hand and the fact that they can continue to use the box for whatever they want once the cards are given away. I also did a little baking for neighbors this week. I decided to use a recipe I haven't pulled out in a while but that has serious sentimental significance (how's that for alliteration?) for me. This recipe was my grandmother's. My mother carried it on in our home while I was growing up and then I also make it in mine. If you are a fan of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies or oatmeal scotchies, or just plain oatmeal cookies, this recipe is for you! It makes a huge batch (about 6-8 dozen cookies depending on how big you make them) but they freeze beautifully.

Grandma Winona's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cream Together:

2 c. butter flavored shortening (I've tried using real butter instead but the shortening really does work better)
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. white sugar

Add and beat:

1 1/2 tea. salt
5 eggs
2 tea. vanilla
2 tea. baking soda dissolved in 2 tbs. hot water

Then add and beat:

2 c. all purpose flour
4 c. quick oats

Stir in by hand:

2 more c. flour

Then add (if desired) and stir:

1-12 oz. bag of milk chocolate chips (my favorite by far are the Guittard brand of the large mild chocolate chips) or butterscotch chips (I like Hershey brand)
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

Drop with 2 spoons on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack and serve. Yummy!

The older I get, the more I love that there are recipes that I use often that have been in my family or Dan's for generations. It makes me feel close to those that have gone before us and left a legacy of family and love for us to continue. Each time I make one of these recipes, I feel a special connection to someone who helped to make me and my family what we are.

Pink Christmas Card and a Recipe

Aloha! No, I'm not in Hawaii...just wishing. There is a snow storm on it's way this afternoon and as I ponder how cold it's going to be when we go to Dawson's basketball game tonight (at least it's not an outdoor football game!), I can't help but think how nice it would be to be lounging on a beach in Hawaii instead. On the positive side, we need the moisture so I won't compain to loudly.

I liked this card that I shared last week so much that I decided to make a variation on that one to put on a gift to a friend. This is what I came up with. I love the color combo (Cotton Candy, Pear, Lagoon and White Daisy) and it makes me feel sunny and happy just looking at it. I will just put it on a wire dangling in front of my face when the snow storm hits this afternoon to keep me sunny and happy inside. Yes, I'm feeling silly today. The supply list for the card can be found at the end of this email. All products are Close To My Heart.

I also mentioned a couple of days ago that I would share my stuffing recipe from Thanksgiving. Keep in mind that I sort of made it up as I went, so I'll do my best on measurements. I LOVED how it turned out.

Karen's 2011 Thanksgiving Stuffing:
1 Box (the kind with 2 bags inside) of pre-seasoned dried bread (or cornbread) for stuffing
1 stick melted butter
2 C. chicken broth
1 lb. ground sausage (browned and drained)
1 large fuji apple (washed and sliced with the skin on)
1 bunch of green onions (cleaned and sliced thinly)
5 stalks of celery (rinsed and chopped)
cracked black pepper to taste

Put seasoned dried bread (crumbs or squares) in a large mixing bowl.
Brown and drain sausage and add to the bread.
Melt butter in frying pan on the stove and cook celery in it until it becomes slightly see through (I know what that's called but I can't for the life of me think of the word. I'm blaming pre-snow storm brain freeze). Add as much cracked pepper as you'd like.
Slice apples and onions and add them to the bread
Pour the butter and celery over the mixture.
Add chicken broth and stir until moisture is thoroughly mixed in and distributed evenly.
Stuff turkey and cook inside turkey, or put in 9 x 13 pan and cook approx. 30 minutes at 350 degrees. You may need to add a bit more moisture if you don't cook it in the bird. You may also want to cover it with foil while it cooks, it depends if you want your stuffing moist (if so, cover it) or if you like it a little crispy on top (if so, don't cover it).

Voila! It was DELISH!

Thanksgiving Festivities

I know I have been MIA for awhile. I have just been enjoying time relaxing with family over the holiday weekend. I hope you have been fortunate enough to do the same. I thought I'd share a few photos (click on any photo to see it larger) from our family weekend to start the week. Enjoy! We sure did.

Daysha and I found this cute red, glittered snowflake for $5. We added a ribbon to hang it with and some Pearl Opaques (glued on with Liquid Glass) from Close To My Heart and...voila: beautiful and very inexpensive Christmas door hanging for her and Easton's little home.

What's Thanksgiving without some football?

Dan and I are a cooking team on Thanksgiving. He does the turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy, and I do the rest. As you can see (see shirt tail) he is not the cleanest of cooks. How does gravy get on the side of your shirt while you are cooking it anyway?

We are thankful, although I think (know) Dawson was being a little bit sarcastic on his #3! See our placecards from my last post. They will go on the front of a pocket for each person. In the pocket there will be a photo of the person and their 'thankful' list. How's that for planning my layout ahead of time? I hope to finish the layout and share it this week.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving relaxing, eating good food, and being grateful for our many blessings. It was hard not to have Kori, Rick and Daci here from Chicago, but with Kori on bed rest until the twins arrive, travel was out of the question for them. It was also bittersweet to not have Tannon. As you know, he is serving a 2 year mission in Malaga, Spain. He'll be here next year though. In fact, we are down to 9 more months. WOW! Here's a little photo he just sent me of him and the little boy of a family he is teaching the gospel to in Spain. He looks so happy!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!

Thanksgiving Place Cards and a Layout Idea

Yesterday, I sat down and put together these little place cards for our Thanksgiving dinner and thought I'd share. I'm so excited for tomorrow and all of that yummy food, time with family, and football! I plan to do a layout of Thanksgiving afterward. One of the things I have planned for this layout is that I will take a photo of each person and I have a little card for them to fill out of things they are grateful for. On the layout I will make a pocket for each person that is labeled with the front of the place cards (how's that for double duty) and inside the pocket will be their gratitude list and the photo of them at the dinner table on Thanksgiving. Cool, right?

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. One of the MANY things I have to be grateful for in my life are all of you who take the time to stop by and read my blog. I especially appreciate those of you who take the time to comment.

Christmas Card (Joy) and a Recipe

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I enjoyed a weekend of relaxation and football. My son, Easton, played in his last college game of the year for Southern Utah University. They were in Flagstaff, AZ on Saturday taking on the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. We won 27-24. YIPEEEE! Easton had a good game (3 catches) and we felt he had a wonderful Freshman season. Unfortunately, they didn't make the FCS playoffs, but they did finish the year with a winning season. Easton had 23 catches for 304 yards, that's an average of over 13 yrs. per catch. Pretty darn good for a Freshman receiver, don't ya think? I love this photo of him (in red, #88) after a catch in a game earlier this year. Darn that guy who caught his foot and tripped him up!

Now on to some artwork and a recipe...

I made this 'joy' card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") using the following Close To My Heart products: White Daisy Cardstock, Cranberry Cardstock, Pear Cardstock, Flurry Dimensional Elements, Milepost Shapes, Hodge Podge Color-Ready Alphabet, Blush Stamp Pad (to sponge snowflake pink), Pearl Paint (painted over the pink snowflake for shimmer..hard to see in the photo), Clear Sparkles, Spray Pen (filled with a tiny bit of water and white acrylic paint to spray splatters and to paint the milepost shape star), 3D Foam Tape. And now the recipe....

PEDERSEN POTROAST (from Karen Pedersen)

Keep in mind that measurements are approximate. I think, for most families, averaging about 1/4 - 1/2 lb. of meat per person would be plenty. I am usually feeding a bunch of big guys and I usually choose a roast that will average about a lb. per person. That way, if there are leftovers, we can make roast beef sandwiches or even beef burritos the next day. So, choose what you think works for your family.

INGREDIENTS:

Sirloin Tip Roast (it's worth paying the extra for a good cut of meat, at least I think so. I choose a roast that averages about 1 lb. per person {see above})
Red Potatoes (I usually do 2-3 per person)--wash and cut into 4ths (you can leave the skin on or off)
Carrots (I usually do about 3 per person)--wash and peel and cut into pieces (see photo)
Celery (I usually do about 1 stalk per person)
1 large onion
1-2 packets of Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Cracked pepper

INSTRUCTIONS:

Steps 1-5

Step 6

Ready to serve

Wash and trim roast and pat dry. Place in a lightly greased casserole dish (I prefer casserole dishes to a roasting pan with a lid. I'll explain a little later.
Sprinkle 1-2 packets of Lipton Onion Soup Mix over roast (I generally do 1 packet for every 3-31/2 lbs. of meat)
Add potatoes and carrots and celery.
Quarter a large onion and place on top of meat
Sprinkle everything with cracked pepper
Cover tightly with aluminum foil. This is the secret. Be sure to run your fingers along the edges and seal it tightly. This will insure a very tender roast that just falls apart when cut. That's how we like it! A roasting pan with a lid lets in too much air.
Cook at 275 for approx. 5-7 hours (if my roast is between 3-4 lbs, 5 hours is plenty. If it's a 7-8 lb. roast, I usually cook it more like 7. Hint: If you like your potatoes and carrots a little bit firm, leave them in much larger pieces.)
Remove foil and serve. The meat will just fall apart. Yum! Enjoy!

How stinkin' cute is this little home decor item made with the fantabulous November Stamp of the Month? VERY stinkin' cute!

This darling project was made by my friend and team member, Susann Eaton. Susann is SO talented and I thought this little decor items was genius - not only is it darling, but it only used 4 products. SIMPLY beautiful! She stamped a 4" x 6" black piece of cardstock with the "Cherish the Day" stamps in White Daisy ink (hint: to dry your ink faster, use your heat gun) then put this in a little black frame. The sparkles were applied on top of the glass in the frame. Did I mention Susann is brilliant? Oh yeah, I think I did. ;0)

Christmas Layouts: December Play Group ("Believe")

It's not too late to sign up for my December Play Group classes (in person or long-distance, or host a class of your own...I need to hear from you no later than Tuesday, November 23 if you want to participate). We will be making three 2-page 12" x 12" layouts that will give you a head start on scrapping this year's (or last year's...lol) Christmas photos. This is my dad, LeRoy Overstreet. I just thought I'd share this photo of my favorite veteran in honor of all of the men and women who do so much to make and keep this country what it is. I'm grateful for their sacrifices daily. Happy Veterans Day, everyone!

Snowflake Card

Yesterday I actually sat down and played in my art studio a little just for fun. This is a card that I came up with. I really like it. I hope you do too! It is a standard size card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") and it's kind of hard to see in my photo, but the colored snowflakes are shimmery and all of the little gems are rhinestones and also shimmery.

Close To My Heart products used: White Daisy Value Pack Cards and Envelopes, Grey Wool Cardstock, Flurry Dimensional Elements, Hodge Podge Color-Ready Alphabet, Bling Assortment, Clear Sparkles, Blush Stamp Pad, Lagoon Stamp Pad (both stamp pads were rubbed directly on the dimensional element snowflakes to color them), Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint (mixed with water in the Spray Pen to spray over snowflakes for a shimmery look), Spray Pen, Sand Paper (I used this to sand the Grey Wool Cardstock after running through the Cuttlebug {see below} to sand the tops of the polka dots).

Here is a little photo of the carrier sheet for this stamp set (actual size of the sheet is 6" x 6"). I saw the coolest thing made with this set the other day that wasn't even Christmas related. I can't remember who made it or where I saw it (sorry!) but they had used the Christmas tree with the writing on it as a pennant and stamped the across the top of a layout and connected the pennants with bows. You could even make it the title of a layout by adding letters on top of each pennant. Cool idea!

As you can see, I got into some SERIOUS embossing on this card. I embossed the red and black backgrounds with the versamark pad and clear embossing powder for a tone on tone look. The tree, sentiment and plaid strip were embossed with white daisy embossing powder. I just LOVE the look of embossing; so rich and delicious!

Just Stuff

Today I thought I'd share a plethora of things and photos. Enjoy!

First off: spider web cupcakes. I was in charge of a little activity for the teenage girls at church. We did an activity to illustrate to 'webs we weave' with the words we say, whether good or bad. I used the book, "Charlotte's Web" as an example of how through "weaving a web of good words" Charlotte was able to not only raise Wilbur's confidence, but save his life. After the little lesson, we wove our own web. We all sat in a large circle. I had a big ball of yarn and I started. I held on to the end of the yarn and said something I liked or admired about another person in the circle. Then I tossed them the ball of yarn to that person, while still holding on to my end. Everyone did the same until everyone in the circle had been "talked about" and we had woven our own web of love. Cheesy? Maybe...but I thought it made a point. I baked cupcakes for the girls to decorate like spider webs. I totally forgot to take a photo of them, but I've included a photo I found online that looks like what we did. Instead of the gumdrop spider, I just had spider rings they could poke down in the middle of their webs Here's a link to show you how to frost your own. The photo is also from their site since I was a goober and forgot to take photos of my own. These little cupcakes are so simple and easy to make, and kiddos and grown ups alike seem to get a kick out of them.

Next, I thought I'd share a fun photo that was taken by our newspaper, The Deseret News last week at Dawson's game. I love it! Doesn't he look studly?
I loved this photo too. It was taken by team photographer, Mark Spencer. He does such a great job!
Here are a few more photos I thought I'd share. Kori (my sweet daughter) is pregnant with babies #2 and #3, a little girl and boy. We are so excited. She and her family live in Chicago. Her sister-in-law, Carly threw her a beautiful shower this past weekend. I just love the colors and decor. Kori made the "twins" banner to later hang in the nursery, and also made the labels on the food to help Carly out a little bit. Ahhh, a girl after my own heart...a paper crafter! lol.
Tannon had a great week too. He baptized 3 people in San Fernando, Spain this past week. I'm so proud of him and his decision to serve a 2-year mission for the Lord in Spain. He's over half-way done. I can't believe it. I get to see this kid of ours again in less than one year. YIPEEEE!
I am feeling a little bit bad that I don't have any great photos or news to share about Easton and Daysha this week. As I read over this post before posting, I realized that they are the only ones of our kiddos I didn't share photos of this week. E and D, if you are reading, I love you just as much as those who are pictured today. Send me some photos! lol.

Lastly, I just finished a really great book. If you are at all interested in Civil War history, specifically the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, you will love this book. I am a BIG fan of fiction but this book is not fiction at all. It's written to feel like fiction, but everything inside is factual and totally non-fiction. That's the best way I can think of to learn a little bit about history and be entertained at the same time. It is co-written by Bill O'Reilly (yes, that Bill O'Reilly...the political pundit) and Martin Dugard. It's called Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America. It doesn't matter whether you love Bill O'Reilly or hate him. The book does not share political views or ideas. It's simply the story of what happened leading up to and during the week of Abraham Lincoln's death. I learned a TON and enjoyed reading it so much. November Play Group Layouts and Class Information (Dreamin')

November's Play Group classes are right around the corner and I wanted to be sure to post and let you know everything you need to know in order to participate. If you are not familiar with my monthly Play Group scrapbooking classes, you can read all about them on the left side of my blog. Just scroll down until you see "Play Group Information." You can also click on any layout above to see it larger and in more detail.

In November we will be using the warm and friendly kit called "Dreamin'" for our three 2-page 12" x 12" layouts. As you can see in the photos above, Autumn photos, as well as anything warm and friendly look beautiful on these pages. I even tried some heritage photos on these papers (as you see in Layout #2) and really liked the look of the black and white with the warm colors.

Mojo Monday Sketch #209 Card

I'm a few days late to enter this in last week's Mojo Monday contest, but I liked the sketch and knew it was something that would challenge me so I'm sharing all the same. Thanks to Mojo Monday for always having cool sketches and ideas!

I based this 6.5" x 5" card on last week's sketch, #209. How 'bout that? I may be late on using the sketch, but I am definitely EARLY for our next Anniversary! WOO HOO! I love having things done ahead of time (over 6 months ahead of time! lol). I used next month's Close To My Heart November Stamp of the Month (Cherish the Day, available in November) and the Roxie papers (which I love...especially that zebra print!). Studio J "Love Your Layout" Video Tutorial for October

IMPORTANT: To watch this video without hearing my play list in the background, first scroll all the way to the bottom of my blog and press the 'pause' button my play list. Easy, peasy, lemon squeasy!

This Studio J "Love Your Layout" tutorial is WONDERFUL. Did you know that every month Close To My Heart releases a new one? I look so forward to it! To me, the best way to use them is to open your Studio J window and then be watching this video in another window. I pause the video as I need to and go to my Studio J window and d0 the step, then go back and start up the video again. That way I can make the layout right along with the tutorial! I almost always order my layout once it's done, but even if you don't it's so worth watching the video and making the layout. You will learn new techniques to use on other ones. If you decide you don't want it when you're done (heaven forbid!), then you can easily delete the layout from your stash.

Dear me! I just realized I hadn't posted the October Play Group Class layouts using our gorgeous Mischief papers yet. Since today is the last class, I won't post the shopping lists, but I will at least post the pages (click on any photo to see it larger and in more detail).

Foiled!

We've been gone this weekend. After Dawson's game on Friday night (they lost 29-28...heart breaker! The good news is that Dawson played well and scored a touchdown), we headed down to Las Vegas to see Easton and the Southern Utah University T-Birds take on the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. UNLV was highly favored but we TROUNCED them! WOO HOO! SUU 44, UNLV 16. I will share a photo of Easton and one of Dawson in a moment.

In the meantime, since I have no art to share (between a weekend of football and canning salsa all day again today), I thought I'd share this fun story. As you can see by the photo at the top of the post, Dawson's room has been 'foiled'. This afternoon the doorbell rang and I almost didn't open it. I wasn't expecting anyone and I had no make-up on, my hair in a pony, and my salsa canning outfit on (we don't need to describe it other than to know that it is NOT vogue). I decided to open the door anyway, and what should I find but 3 beautiful girls from Dawson's school. They all introduced themselves and asked if they could sneak into Dawson's room while he was at football practice. They explained that one of them wanted to ask him to the Sadie Hawkins dance and they had a fun idea. If you think my salsa outfit is bad, you should have seen Dawson's room. Suffice it to say, he is not a great housekeeper! Sheesh, I was embarrassed! Oh well. I let them go in and they pretty much covered everything in sight in foil, including shoes, laundry baskets, the whole bed, the handles on the dresser and bedside table, everything on top of his dresser, even a little bit of dirty laundry on the floor, etc. Then, on top of it all it said, "Don't foil my plans! Go to Sadie Hawkins with me. To find out who I am, start unwrapping." Too cute! I can't wait for him to get home and see it. I think we are going to have to come up with a really creative way to answer.
