Creative Blogger Award

I am honored to be nominated as a Creative Blogger by fellow CTMH Consultant, Vicki Wizniuk.
I was extra honored to be nominated by her because she is one of my creative idols. It's kind of cool that she feels the same way about me. Be sure to check out her blog. She does BEAUTIFUL work!
We are joining up as a chain of fun blog hop tours, where we will get to meet new bloggers, get new inspiration and connect with blogs that will open up our creativity.
This blog hop is sure to be a great inspiration.
I hope you hop along with us.
Here are my 4 questions I need to answer before I pass along my nominations…

What am I currently working on?

I am currently working on three 2-page layouts made the beautiful Pathfinding papers for my November Play Group classes.  I love this paper and am having so much fun designing with it.  I offer my Play Group classes each month in person here in Utah, or long-distace through kits in the mail.  You can always see upcoming classes here on my blog.  Just scroll down the left side of my blog to see past months, the current month, and the explanation of how Play Group works.

How does my work differ from others in its genre?

This is a very hard question. It's hard to be objective about your own work. I'm not really sure how I differ, but I can say some things I really like and try to bring into my work:
  • bold titles (like on this layout)
  • something that really catches your eye and makes my page/card unique (like the scattered "Hero" throughout the borders of this page)
  • when scrapbooking I try to make the photos the centerpiece and to embellish and decorate my pages in a way that enhances the photos, but doesn't take away from them (like in this layout I used muted colors that went along with the bold colors in the photo. That way the photos really stood out).
  • I love fun and different color combos (like the takeoff on the traditional red and green color combo by using different color saturations of them)
  • I LOOOOOOOVE embossing
Why do I create what I do?

First of all, I LOVE to be creative. I love the whole process of thinking of color combos, deciding how to lay things out, and how to embellish. I even love the process of journaling and putting life and memories to the artwork I've created.  All of that is true and part of why I create, but the BIGGEST reason is that I love my family. I want to beautifully preserve the memories and experiences we have shared for not only them, but generations to come. Long after I'm gone I hope that people will look at my books and learn about my family and me.
How does my creative process work?

That's another hard question! I am not sure.  Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and think of an idea. Other times I look at a photo and a color combo will pop into my head.  Other times I see a throw pillow or fabric at a home decor store and just know I want to bring that feeling to a card or scrapbook page.  I guess  my creative process works by living life. I am always inspired by colors, textures and design I see in nature, in home design stores and magazines, or in fashion. I love the beauty that this world holds and get so excited to try to bring that beauty into my own creations.  Several years ago, I made a scrapbook page that was wholly inspired by a gift bag I had.

The layout below was inspired by a decorative plate I saw in a store.  I loved the stars and the turquoise and beige mixed in with the red, white and blue color scheme.  I incorporated those design elements into this basketball layout of Dawson.

So… now I get to nominate some inspiring bloggers.
I nominate Lisa Stenz, and Christine Adams
They are both BEAUTIFUL artists and their insides are just as beautiful as the artwork they create!
Check out their blogs, you will not be disappointed.
