Southern Utah University Spring Football Game

Dan and I, and my mom and dad all drove down for the game.  Our niece, Tiana joined us too.  Tannon's wife, Brookley is missing from the photo. She had to work. Darn!

We take a break from our regularly artistic content to share some photos I'm really excited to get busy scrapping. Don't worry! I'll share them when I get it done.

April 15 was the Southern Utah University Spring Football Game.  If you haven't been following my blog for long, you might not know that SUU football is a Pedersen tradition. My hubby was scholarshipped to play football back in the mid-80's at SUU. Since then, all 3 of our boys have followed in his footsteps.  People tell me all the time how amazing it is that all of our boys have been talented enough to play college football. I think it's not so amazing when football is life in your home. 😂 Our oldest son, Easton finished his career at SUU a few years ago at number 7 on the all-time receiving list.  No too shabby. I miss watching him play!  Tannon and Dawson have continued the legacy.  Proud mom? Yep!

Dawson and Paige. This was Paige's first time as a football wife. She said to me, "If I get this nervous in a Spring Game, I can't even imagine what I'm going to be like in the regular season!"  I told her to trust me. I've felt her pain for decades as a football wife then football momma!

Tannon plays safety.  He came to SUU as a QB, and spent his first several years playing QB. Last year he severely injured his arm, and his throwing motion was pretty much destroyed. The defensive coordinator asked him to move to safety. We really thought his time on the collegiate football field was over.  I mean, he hadn't played defense since 6th grade. How could he possibly play defense on a collegiate level?  True to Tannon form, he worked hard, learned the position, and his athleticism kicked in. He got a lot of playing time at safety last year and we expect the same again this fall (his senior season). Dawson will be a red shirt freshman this year, playing tight end.  He really wanted to shine in Spring football and make a mark heading into Fall. I think he succeeded!

Both of my 'little boys" played great.  And, when you have one kid playing offense and the other playing defense, it's inevitable they will battle it out in the Spring Game.

Tannon and Dawson: brother against brother

Here are a few other great shots.  I love the team photographer, Anita! She always gets such great shots of my boys.

Dawson after one of his 4 catches on the day

In the Pedersen house, football time is family time.  I wish all of our family could have joined us for the Spring Game, but we look forward to an upcoming Fall, full of football, fun and all of the family cheering these two on!

Embossed Card and Embossing Tips

To say I am embossing obsessed would be an understatement.  It is the thing that got me into stamping about 30 years ago, and it never gets old for me.

Story: In 1992, I was walking through a boutique with my friend, Dallas.  We passed a stamping booth and I saw an elegant card with a gold Christmas Tree embossed on a beautiful creamy off-white card.  It made my heart do a few extra thumps in my chest. I had to know how to do that. I asked the lady at the booth to show me how to do it. She showed me. I bought everything I needed, and embossed 200 Christmas cards that year.  I was hooked.  Sidenote: about 9 months after that I stumbled on to D.O.T.S. (now Close To My Heart), signed up as a consultant, and the rest is history. I'm still embossing up a storm!

Enough nostalgia.  Let's talk about embossing and this darling stamp set.  It's only available in April (so for less than one more week!) and is yours for only $5 ($12.95 savings) with every $50 purchase (before shipping and tax). Order $100, get 2...and so on. When ordering on my website, you'll be prompted to add your set(s) before checking out.

April Stamp of the Month - Flock Together

For this card, I embossed in white. I love ALL embossing, but I'm very partial to white!  I love the look. After embossing the birds, I used some of our blue tone Shin Han Alcohol Markers to add a bit of color.

Here's are a couple little embossing tips for you to help you get a really nice, clean embossed image:
  • Before stamping your paper with embossing ink and adding the embossing powder and heating, first rub a dryer sheet across the surface. This helps with static cling and makes your embossed images much cleaner.
  • Keep a very fine paint brush handy. After you've stamped your image with Versarmark Ink and sprinkled your embossing powder on, use the fine tip paintbrush to carefully brush away any grains of powder that are not sticking to the image.  Then heat.  Remember that any embossing powder that is on your paper is going to melt and emboss once you heat it. You don't want a "speckled background" of melted embossing powder.

Cards with My Sketch

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I posted a card sketch I created and a card to go with it. You can see them hereAlso, here's a little photo of them both.

Well, in that post,  I invited people to use my sketch and share what they created. Two people, whose artwork I admire greatly, rose to the challenge.  I'm so excited to share!

First off, here's a card from my friend, Jaquie Paech, all the way from Australia! She's a CTMH Consultant and beautiful artist.  You should give her a follow at:! Great job with the sketch, Jacquie!  Jacquie used the Hello Lovely Paper Packet, which retires at the end of April, so get it while you can right here.

Secondly is my friend, Laurel Seabrook. Laurel does such beautiful artwork and I always learn something new when I look at her designs.  She is a CTMH Consultant in Canada.  You can give her a follow at:  Laurel used the GORGEOUS Live Beautifully Paper Packet (that will be available from CTMH only in you are getting a sneak peek). Check back here on May 1 and you can see all of the May Live Beautifully products and find out how to get them.  They are TO. DIE. FOR!

Jacquie and Laurel, thanks for making my sketch look so good!

Anniversary or Wedding Card

I think the April Stamp of the Month (Flock Together) is perfect for weddings and anniversaries, although you might not think of those options when you first see it.  I created this 5" x 7" card for my hubby,  Dan the Man (don't worry...he never does social media, so he won't see it!) for our upcoming 32nd wedding anniversary in May.  It's crazy to think we've been married that long!  I was 18 when we got married and he turned 23 just a couple of weeks later. We were babies!  We have built a life and family together that I wouldn't trade for anything (4 children, 4 children in law, 6 1/2 grandchildren!).  He really is the man of my dreams (although, let's be real: he does fart and burp, watch TV with no pants, and do other frustrating man things! TMI?  Remember I said he never looks at social media? I'm safe!).

Back to this stamp set.  It's only available this month, and is only $5 with every $50 you purchase (before shipping and tax).  Purchase $100, get 2...and so on.  When ordering on my website, you'll be prompted to add your set(s) before checking out.

One of the things that I think makes this card special is the shimmery birds.  I used our Clear Shimmer Brush after coloring them with Shin Han Markers and I love the effect.

Here's a little close up of the shimmery birds:

I've  included a complete list of the products I used on this card, along with photos and links for your convenience, at the very end of this post. Happy shopping!
