3 Tasty Treats

Today I thought I'd share three tasty treats.

Tasty Treat #1
This is a layout I finished yesterday of my Daci. I told you when I posted the delicious pictures of her in her purple a few days ago that a layout was forming in my head! I hope you enjoy it.

Other:
Ghose letters (Heidi Swapp)

Tasty Treat #2
The second yummy thing I want to share is one of my favorite recipes. I lived in Kentucky from the time I was 15 until just about 18. This is one of my "Kentucky Recipes". It's called Chess Cake. No, that's not a typo. I meant chess, not cheese, although it is very cream cheesey. It's also not really like a cake, but more like a bar cookie. So why do they call it Chess Cake? Heck, I don't know. Whatever you want to call it, it's YUMMY!

Chess Cake
makes 9 x 13 pan

Mix:
1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
1 stick of butter (1/2 cup), melted

press into greased 9 x 13 pan (it's kind of like a play dough consistency)

Then mix:
2 eggs
4 c. powdered sugar
8 oz. cream cheese, softened

Pour this over first layer in your 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes, until top is golden brown. Cool then cut and serve.

Tasty Treat #3
Tonight is Idol night!
WOO HOO! Even though Adam has been my favorite from about the 3rd week of the season, Kris is my second favorite (I'm sure my Playlist makes it quite obvious I love them both). I wish the best to both of them. I'm so excited to see and hear them sing tonight. Of course we have other things going on (choir concert for Dawson, basketball game for Tannon) so I will have to watch it late tonight. Thank heavens for DVR! Sidenote: In Tannon's basketball game last night (and yes, look out, I'm about to brag) he had 27 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and was 14/14 from the free throw line. We won! WOO HOO! We are in the semi-final game tonight of the state AAU Spring Fling tournament.

Way to go Tannon!!! Congrats to you Karen on having such an amazing family :-) BTW, the chess cake is a HUGE hit in our home. On Sunday's when I ask the kids what treat they want, this is usually the one the is screamed the loudest (it doesn't help that Tyler is the loudest in our home) Anyway, I usually have to turn her down, because I can't keep my fingers out of it and that does not help when you are trying to stay fitting your clothes ;-) Thanks a ton for sharing!

Allison,
How did a Utah girl get that Kentucky recipe? I am curious. Thanks for your sweet compliments!

What a layout, Karen! I love the ghost letters. That's so subtle, and keeps all the attention all your sweet grandbaby. She is adorable!
Next week I'll be trying chess cake! Thanks for sharing the recipe for something so easy!!
Were you able to watch Idol yet?

Brenda, my Idol buddy! I'm off to fold laundry and watch Idol right now. My daughter said she thought that Adam was better overall last night. She thinks Kris will win though because she feels that those who were voting for Danny will most likely vote for Kris now. I guess we'll see. I'm excited to go see. She said Kris's first song was awesome and Adam's second song was amazing. She said that Adam was definitley better on the third. Do you agree? I'll check for your reply after I watch. I have a feeling you and I might just feel the same way! Thanks so much for your compliments on the layout. You'll have to let me know how you like the chess cake.

Well, Simon called Adam theatrical on the first. But Jerry and I agreed that if we were going to a concert, what a great entrance - and his singing was solid. Kris was really good on the first, but did struggle from there. Adam's Sam Cook song was - well - Adam! It was amazing, and he surely delivered Kara's song better. I am anxious for tonight!

I agree with you almost 100%. I loved all 3 of Adam's songs. I loved Kris's first song, really liked his second, but thought he really struggled on the third. I felt it was a little unfair to him because that song was really not in his range, but oh well. I'm hoping for Adam, but will be very happy for Kris if he wins too. Thanks for sharing my Idol obsession with me!
