One Last Tinkerin' Card

One last Tinkerin' card for today. This one is for my son, Easton. As you probably know from many of my previous posts, he is on a mission for our church. He is having minor surgery tomorrow morning and I made this little card to send him to say, "We love you and are thinking of you." I hope he likes it!

"Gear Up" for the Next Level Sketch #1, Challenge #3

Here's another card I made with the cuter than cute Tinkerin' kit from Close To My Heart using the innovative sketch from The Next Level (sketch 1, challenge 3). I loved that the card sketch allowed for a circular pocket. What a great way to make a party invitation. The tag just pulls right out with all of the information.

"Gear Up" for Mojo Monday, sketch #91

I had fun making this card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch (#91). I have really enjoyed playing with the Tinkerin' papers and MyStickease from Close To My Heart the past few days. What a bright and summery kit! When I first got it, I thought it looked like something I would use for little boy pages, but I have used it for all kinds of other things; including summer layouts, manly cards, and a party invitation.

Family Affair

Kori, Rick and Daci came to visit this afternoon and stayed for dinner. It was so much fun. Tannon made his famous BBQ chicken on the grill (I will share that recipe later next week), we had lots of other yummy food (including my mom's yummiest ever banana bread - recipe and photo below) and enjoyed relaxing with good company. Dan played with the baby while we cooked and cleaned up (he got the best job!) and Dawson had the other fun job of keeping her laughing with his silly faces. Family is so wonderful!

While they were here, I snapped a few cute photos of Daci in the yard; some of her on her pink blankie playing on the grass, and a couple of her by the little stream that runs through the side of our yard. LOVE the contrast of the hot pink and the greens and browns of nature, as well as the glowing little granddaughter that never ceases to make my heart feel like it will burst. I also love the chubby little legs and the second stream photo where she is reaching out her little foot toward the water.

Banana Bread
(Nedra Overstreet)
makes 1 loaf

Cream:
3/4 C. sugar
1/3 C. shortening (I like butter flavored)

Blend in:
2 eggs
2 Tbs. orange juice
2 Tbs. lemon juice
1 C. mashed bananas (usually about 2 large bananas)

Add, stirring only until blended:
2 C. sifted flour
3 1/2 tea. baking powder
3/4 tea. salt

Fold in: 1/2 C. chopped walnuts

Pour into well greased loaf pan. Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes while you preheat oven (it really does make a difference!). Bake 1 hour at 325 degrees or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool.

We're back...with a SWOOSH!

If your youngest child were playing in the Utah Summer Games, if he did a great job, if his team made it all the way to the game that would have put them into bronze medal contention, if they lost that game on a last second buzzer beater shot by two, wouldn't you be happy? Nope! Not me. All I could think of the whole time was that Dawson, my baby (known still to me as "Dawsie") is growing up. He is going into 9th grade (that sounds much better to me that his 'freshman year'). He is beginning to look like a teenager. He is beginning to act like a teenager (heaven forbid). He played basketball like a teenager. Gone are the days of watching him play and when he travelled or fouled I thought, "How cute!" I have to admit that he is past the years of childhood and into the years of becoming a young man. Darn. I know, get over it. Celebrate where he is right now. I'm trying. But letting my baby grow up is pretty hard. I'm working on it.

We just got back from Cedar City last night (hence the lack of posts the past few days). The team Dawson played with in this tournament is also all 9th graders, but they played up in the sophomore division in the Summer Games. They held their own. They fought hard. I was proud of them. Dawson was especially happy with this little series of photos I took of him shooting the front end of 2 shots at the foul line (although if I ever design a gym, I will add MUCH better lighting for moms taking photos!). He said, "Look at that form!" Yep, he's definitely a teenage boy. I am slowly learning to accept it. But, I'm still calling him Dawsie! It's a mother's right. So there.

By the way, it's good to be home.

Fun in the Sun!

Tomorrow morning Dawson and I are headed down to Cedar City for several days where he will be playing in the Utah Summer Games with his basketball team, and where we'll be staying with his cousin, Padon. He and Padon are kindred spirits that have been buds since they were babies. They LOVE it when there is a chance to spend a few days together. Living three hours apart means it doesn't happen as often as they'd like.

This layout is one that shows off some pictures of Dawson and Padon at a family reunion a couple of years ago. They had so much fun in the sun! It also follows this week's sketch at Creative Scrappers (#56). You can click on the photo to see a larger version.
