Autumn Card and Create Kindness Artwork

I don't know how almost a week has gotten away from me since my last post. I had planned to post some artwork with the Creating Kindness kit last Friday and totally spaced it. As a result, today you get a post filled with DOUBLE THE FUN!  I'll be sharing some September Stamp of the Month artwork as well as some Creating Kindness artwork.

Let's do the September Stamp of the Month artwork first. The card you see at the top of the post is something I put together using this beautiful stamp set.  I've also included a full products used list at the end of this post, that includes everything I used on this card as well as the Creating Kindness artwork later in this post.  The list is complete with photos and links for your convenience.

A few quick artwork tips from this card:
  • I stamped the pumpkin in Goldrush ink then shaded on top of that with a rusty orange and a tan pencil from our Watercolor Pencils set.
  • To get the 'splatters' on the card, I just used my black memento pad, squeezed some ink in the top of the lid by pressing it down on the ink pad with the lid closed. I then opened the lid and used it for my 'pallet.'  I added a bit of water and then used a medium paint brush to pick up some of the slightly watery black ink. I then held that over my card base and just lightly tapped on the paint brush to create the splatters. Be sure to let that dry before stamping and putting things together so you don't smudge those cute splatters.
  • To line up the "Thankfuls", just lay a ruler across your card and stamp the first row right above it.  Then, for the second row, just use the first row as your guide and stamp each word centered between the words on the first row for visual interest.

This gorgeous stamp set is only available in September and is yours for only $5 ($12.95 savings) with every $50 you order (before shipping and tax).  Spend $100, get 2...and so on.  When ordering on my website, you'll be prompted to add your set(s) before checking out.

************************

Now let's move on to the Creating Kindness artwork I promised.  I'll share some artwork, then remind you of the Creating Kindess special (ends September 30, or while supplies last...whichever comes first) and how it works.

To color in my stamped images, I used watercolor pencils (without water). I love how soft and seamlessly they blend!

As you can see below, the kit comes with pre-printed 3"x 3" card bases. I did one 3" x 3"  card and then used a couple more of the bases as patterned paper on the bookmark and the standard card (5 1/2" x 4 1/4").  You see some of the Glacier polka dot bases on these projects, but there are are also Willow striped bases, Raspberry striped bases and Pansy polka dot bases as well. You can see them all below, as well as seeing some artwork I did with the Raspberry bases here and here.

We are celebrating National Stamping Month this September with hand stamped cards designed to help create a little more kindness in the world.

The Create Kindness card kit contains all of the supplies needed to create 24 beautiful, handmade 3" x 3" cards that you can use to brighten someone’s day!

Great uses for these cards include (I'll be posting artwork ideas for many of these suggestions throughout the month):
  • gift enclosure cards
  • RAK cards. Carry them in your purse and give them to anyone who brightens your day.  How about a card to your hair stylist just saying thanks for always doing a great job, or to your bank teller for always being kind and outgoing, etc, etc.
  • Turn them into bag toppers for a little bag of treats
  • Don't fold them and turn them into darling book marks.
  • Use the card bases as patterend paper on layouts and full-size cards and stamp those cute stamps just about anywhere.
  • Color your stamped images in with markers, watercolor paints, or even colored pencils. The possibilities are endless!

Thanks to the pre-printed card bases, these cards come together in no time, leaving you more time to do something thoughtful for someone! Treat Toppers and Cards with the Create Kindness Kit

You may look at the wonderful Create Kindness Kit (only available this month) and think it is a darling 3" x 3" card kit, and you would be right....but it's so much MORE!  I  have been using it to create all kinds of other sized cards and papercrafts.  Today I thought I'd share a few treat toppers, a treat box, and a couple of standard sized cards (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") I made with this kit.

A few things to note:
  • although the cards in the kit are 3" x 3" and so cute for that, you can also cut them apart like you can see I have done with a few of these products (the raspberry stripes were the 3" x 3" card and I just cut one in strips to use on a few of these projects)
  • although the stamp sets (8 of 'em!) in the kit are perfect for 3" x 3" cards, they are great for just about anything
  • you can always mix in a few papers or other supplies that don't come in the kit for your creations. I've used a few of our Uptown Fundamentals Papers and a bit of Raspberry Cardstock.
Now, let's talk a little bit about the kit itself and how to get it:

One Card Colored Three Ways

The September National Stamping Month Special: Create Kindness is full of goodness! You can make 24 - 3" x 3" cards, 6 each of different colors and designs, including envelopes. It also comes with 8 different stamp sets to choose from, as well as a mini-stamp pad, an acrylic block and a great storage box.  It's only $46.95 (about $10 off retail price if you were to price each of the items out separately).

Here is a collage of the 8 stamp sets that come in the set:

Today, I decided to show you some of the raspberry cards using the Hello stamp set. I colored each of these cards with a different medium. The far left is with watercolor pencil (but I didn't use water, just colored them as if they were regular colored pencils), the middle is with our Shin Han alcohol markers, and the third I painted with our soft and beautiful watercolor paints. I have included a list of the products I used at the very end of this post, complete with photos and links for your convenience.

Let's talk about each color medium and a few tips on each....

1.  Watercolor Pencils:

This is one of my very favorite choices to color with. Whether I'm using them with water or without, they are smooth and beautiful, and fast.  One tip I would give you is never to color with the sharp tip. Instead, scribble for just a second on a scrap piece of paper to create a flat angle on your tip and then use that flat spot to color with. You will have so much better luck with blending and not seeing any pencil lines.

2.  Shin Han Alcohol Markers:

I love alcohol markers. They blend so beautifully!  On this card I have only used 4 colors:  Tender Pink, Cherry Pink, Pastel Green and Leaf Green.  Here are  a few tips to get great blending:
  • Color the area you want with your lighter color
  • While that is still wet, go back and highlight with your darker color
  • While that is still wet, go back over the entire area with your lighter color
3.  Watercolor Paints:

This past year watercolor painting in papercrafting has made a huge comeback.  I have had so much fun with this medium.  It's okay to go out of the lines a bit and get a little messy.  That's the look that's so "in". My card is an example of going a little bit out of the lines and still looking nice (if you don't think so, you are more than welcome to stay in the lines on yours. ;)  ).

My tip for watercolor is "less is more". It tends to dry darker than it looks when you put it on wet. You can always add more color but it's a tad bit harder to take it away.

September Close To My Heart Specials and a Brand New Mini-Catalog

September is HERE!  Not only are there some awesome specials happening this month with Close To My Heart, PLUS a brand new catalog, but it's also the first day of our sons' college football season. Let's start with that (because I'm kind of a proud mom!).  Good luck, Tannon and Dawson!  Thanks for humoring me!

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, let's talk CTMH.  I have some exciting things to tell you about in September (which is National Card Making Month), so let's start with a comprehensive list, then move on to details...

1.  National Card Making Month Special: Create Kindness
2.  September Stamp of the Month
3.  Brand New Holiday Expressions Mini-Catalog

2.  September Stamp of the Month - Blessed Beyond Measure: This gorgeous stamp set is a perfect way to usher in Autumn and the thoughts and feelings of gratitude that accompany it.  I love the Fall and I love the whole Thanksgiving holiday and what it stands for. I'm a huge believer that grateful people are happy people, and that no matter how dark things seem, if you look, there is ALWAYS something to be grateful for.   This set expresses all of those feelings and more with it's gorgeous sentiments, as well as covering the gamut of Autumn with pumpkins, leaves branches and berries.

The photo at the top of the post, and the one below, is of a card set I created with this stamp set.  I love it!

I'll also be sharing artwork here each week in September with this set (on Mondays). This set is yours for only $5 ($12.95 discount) with each $50 you order (before shipping and tax).  Order $100, get 2...and so on.  When ordering on my website, you'll be prompted to add your set before checking out. Easy!

Artwork tips:
  • Try a top fold card!  This 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card is folded at the top.  You'll need a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of cardstock to do it, then just score and fold at 5 1/2". Try rounding the bottom corners for a fun bit of personality!  I've also included a list of the products I used, complete with photos and links for your convenience at the very end of this post.
  • When creating your own random stamped background (like I did in the top 2/3 of these cards), be sure to turn your stamp different directions and to stamp off the edges of your card as well.  It makes that random background so much more pleasing to look at!

3.  Brand New Holiday Expressions Mini-Catalog:

It's here and starts TODAY (valid September 1- December 31)!  You can view it page-by-delicious page right here.  When ordering on my website you'll be prompted to add your own copy to your order for FREE!  How's that for CTMH generosity?!!!  It goes hand in hand with our Annual Inspirations Idea Book that began on August 1, 2016 and goes through July 31, 2017, and you can view both publications at the link above.

Whew! That was a lot of September CTMH Goodness all in one post, don't you think?  Please call or email if you have any questions (801.360.9896, pedermom@aol.com).
