Southern Utah University Spring Football Game

Dan and I, and my mom and dad all drove down for the game.  Our niece, Tiana joined us too.  Tannon's wife, Brookley is missing from the photo. She had to work. Darn!

We take a break from our regularly artistic content to share some photos I'm really excited to get busy scrapping. Don't worry! I'll share them when I get it done.

April 15 was the Southern Utah University Spring Football Game.  If you haven't been following my blog for long, you might not know that SUU football is a Pedersen tradition. My hubby was scholarshipped to play football back in the mid-80's at SUU. Since then, all 3 of our boys have followed in his footsteps.  People tell me all the time how amazing it is that all of our boys have been talented enough to play college football. I think it's not so amazing when football is life in your home. 😂 Our oldest son, Easton finished his career at SUU a few years ago at number 7 on the all-time receiving list.  No too shabby. I miss watching him play!  Tannon and Dawson have continued the legacy.  Proud mom? Yep!

Dawson and Paige. This was Paige's first time as a football wife. She said to me, "If I get this nervous in a Spring Game, I can't even imagine what I'm going to be like in the regular season!"  I told her to trust me. I've felt her pain for decades as a football wife then football momma!

Tannon plays safety.  He came to SUU as a QB, and spent his first several years playing QB. Last year he severely injured his arm, and his throwing motion was pretty much destroyed. The defensive coordinator asked him to move to safety. We really thought his time on the collegiate football field was over.  I mean, he hadn't played defense since 6th grade. How could he possibly play defense on a collegiate level?  True to Tannon form, he worked hard, learned the position, and his athleticism kicked in. He got a lot of playing time at safety last year and we expect the same again this fall (his senior season). Dawson will be a red shirt freshman this year, playing tight end.  He really wanted to shine in Spring football and make a mark heading into Fall. I think he succeeded!

Both of my 'little boys" played great.  And, when you have one kid playing offense and the other playing defense, it's inevitable they will battle it out in the Spring Game.

Tannon and Dawson: brother against brother

Here are a few other great shots.  I love the team photographer, Anita! She always gets such great shots of my boys.

In the Pedersen house, football time is family time.  I wish all of our family could have joined us for the Spring Game, but we look forward to an upcoming Fall, full of football, fun and all of the family cheering these two on!

Cyber Week Sale, CreativeLive, Making Tags, Simply Fundamentals Layout Number Four and MORE!

I'm back!  I haven't fallen off the face of the earth...but almost. It's been a crazy week.  If you are wondering why it's been a whole week since my last post, trust me, I've got good excuses. ;)  Between the Thanksgiving holiday, preparing for days for and being out of town for 4 days shooting Creative Live (see details below), a craft night with my girls, and just plain being exhuasted, the blog took a back seat.  The good news is that I'm back...and back with some really good stuff!

I've got 4 fun things to talk to you about today.  Yep, 4! That ought to make up for a week since the last post, right?

Here's what you'll find today...
1.  Cyber Week Sale (hold on to your hats!)
2.  CreativeLive
3.  Making Tags With My Girls
4.  Simply Fundamentals Layout #4
-------------------

1. Cyber Week Sale:

Do you love Close To My Heart? Do you love our products? Do you love scrapbooking, card making or papercrafting (or all 3?)?  Then this is the sale for you!  I will be posting more details on Sunday, but just know that there are going to be some good sales (in the ball park of around 39 items) at steeply discounted prices.  The sale runs Monday, November 30 through Friday, December 4.  Be sure to check back on Sunday to get all of the details and gear up!

2. CreativeLive:  I was one of 3 consultants invited to accompany Monica Wihongi and Jill Broadbent (from the CTMH home office) to appear on CreativeLive this past week.  "What is CreativeLive?" you ask.  It is an online channel filled with wonderful classes. We shot live for 2 days (8 hours a day) to share Close To My Heart, techniques, artwork, information, laughter and MORE with the world.  It was broadcase LIVE on CreativeLive.com and you can also go back and watch it there. Usually playbacks cost $, but not in this case. CTMH wants everyone to be able to learn about this wonderful company and all of our outstanding products so they paid the class fees for everyone, forever! How cool is that.  Watch our 24 classes here. You can see me in classes #14, #21, #22 and the wrap up at the very end of the classes.  It was tons of fun.  Not only did we work out tushes off while there (it was shot in Seattle, WA), but we made sure to play hard too. Here are a few photos of our week:

Thursday:  We flew in to Seattle and spent the day preparing for the next 2 days of shooting.
This is set up day. We arrived on Thursday and went to the studio for a production meeting and to set up everything for the set for Friday's shooting.  After that we enjoyed a delicious Mexican food dinner.

After dinner, cupcakes were a must.  How about that box?

Friday: was our first day of shooting.
My partner in crime, Michelle, the fabulous Stacy Julian, and me.  This was off camera during Friday's shooting.

Kristina, Michelle and I setting up live audience table kits for Friday.

Of course we stopped to see the Space Needle. It was only a couple of blocks from our hotel.
On Friday evening after taping, and before dinner at a great seafood restaurant on the pier (Ivar's), we went to the Chihuly glass exhibit. I can't even begin to describe the awesomeness of it!  I was speechless (and that's quite a trick!)

Saturday: was my day on screen.  I shared it with 4 other people from CTMH (my buddy, Michelle, another wonderful consultant Kristina, and 2 peeps from the home office, Monica and Jill).  It was a day to remember forever!

Hair and make up on Saturday morning. I could get used to this.  Note that I was still reviewing my notes.  Nothing like a last minute refresher before you go on!
This girl and I have 'grown up' in CTMH together. We signed up the same year (1993), and we have shared a friendship that has lasted all of those years. I was so happy that she and I were both invited to present at CreativeLive.

Here I am on-camera with the one and only Monica Wihongi

After the final taping on Saturday. These are the 5 presenters that represented CTMH for 2 days. We had a blast!  What an honor!

There may have only been 5 of us on-camera for our 2 day shoot, but it takes a village to make that happen. These are all of the staff, camera crew, sound guys, host, etc. that made the magic a reality.

On the plane on the way home, I certainly was assigned the right seat!  I was able to look right out my window and see this spectacular view of Mt. Rainier.  Breath taking!

3. Making Tags:

My girls and I have a fun night-before-Thanksgiving tradition of getting together for a craft. This year we decided to make Christmas gift tags. We had tons of fun. Unfortunately, one of us was missing. Brookley (Tannon's wife) was unable to make it. They live 3 hours away and would normally have been up here for Thanksgiving, but Tannon and the Southern Utah Football team finished their regular season as #16 in the country, winner of the Big Sky Conference, and made the FCS playoffs. They will be playing #6, Sam Houston State on Saturday.  The team (and their spouses) had Thanksgiving dinner together yesterday before flying out to Houston last night.  We missed them on Thanksgiving, but are so exciting for the team!  Kori, Daysha and I made sure to make extra tags for Brookley.

Here are Tannon and Brookley after the Big Sky championship last weekend.  Tannon has been growing that gnarly beard since the season began. We call it the magic beard. He is not shaving until the season is over.

Shine Bright Card and Football Begins

Many of us (including me!) are really into pocket scrapbooking these days.  I love it!  Close To My Heart's Picture My Life (PML) line is so perfect. I have loved using PML cards to create beautiful scrapbook projects. The thing is, when I'm done, I always have a few cards left.  Hmmm...what to do with them?  How about make greeting cards? This standard (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") card was created using 2 left over PML cards, a tad bit of Cocoa Cardstock, a bit of Boardwalk Washi Tape, and a couple of Durables Triangle Studs. The "shine bright" piece was a 3" x 4" card that I just cut the edges off to make about a 2 1/2" x 4" piece. The background was a 4" x 6" card that I cut down to 4" x 5 1/4". I then mounted them on the front of a standard Colonial White card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2").  Get creative!  Think outside the box and your left over PML cards have endless possibilities!

Check out the products used list at the end of my post, complete with photos and links for your convenience. Quick, easy, and a masculine masterpiece!

I am posting this card today in honor of the first day of Southern Utah Fall Football Camp for our son, Tannon. One month from today we play our first game at Utah State University.  Go, T-Birds! Go, Tannon!  Shine bright, Tannon...and kick some trash while you're at it!

Just Because Card with the April Stamp of the Month + Southern Utah University Red and White Game

4" x 4" card by Karen Pedersen

Happy Monday!  It's been longer than usual since my last post. Sorry about that!  Last week was crazy and then we went to watch our son, Tannon and the Southern Utah University Thunderbird football team at the annual Red and White Spring Game. Tannon quarterbacked the red team. He did a great job!  It was fun to watch.  More about that after I talk about this card.

I created this card with the April Stamp of the Month (Typed Note).  This set is only available in April and can be yours for only $5 ($12.95 savings) with each $50 you spend (before shipping and tax). Spend $100, get 2...and so on.  If you are ordering on my website, you'll be prompted to add your set(s) before you check out.  For your convenience, I've included a complete product list of what I've used on this card, complete with photos and links, at the very end of this post.

April Stamp of the Month (Typed Note). Carrier sheet actual size is approx. 6" x 6".
Now, back to our weekend and football.  If you've been a follower of my blog for very long, you know that we are a huge football family.  My father played college football, my hubby did, and all 3 of our boys have or will.  Last year was our oldest son, Easton's senior year at Southern Utah University. He finished his career there as the #7 all-time receiver at SUU. Tannon, our 2nd son, is playing there now and our 3rd son, Dawson (currently serving a mission in Sydney, Australia) will also return from his mission and play at SUU. Tannon is a red-shirt sophomore and is a quarterback. His first 2 years of college have been hampered by injuries and 3 surgeries. It has been a frustrating thing, after never having been injured before college.  He was so excited to be healthy for the annual Red/White Spring Game.  He was the quarterback for the red team and did a great job.  Since  he served a 2 year mission for our church directly after high school and has spent the first 2 years of his football career injured, it's the first time he's been on the field, other than practice, for about 5 1/2 years.  Let's hope he stays healthy and is ready for the real season this Fall.   I can't tell you how good it was for this mom to see her son out there doing what he loves again.

Note: You'll notice that Tannon is in a green jersey, although he is quarterbacking the red team.  Both the red team and white team quarterbacks were in green jerseys for the game. Tannon is #10.

After the game lots of the boys came up for autographs. So cute!
This little guy wanted his football signed.
We had lots of friends and family there for the game.
