Sticks and Stones...

What is that saying? "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me." Well, it keeps running through my mind this morning. At 11 pm last night I thought I had pulled a muscle in the right side of my lower back. I kept thinking, "Hmmm. How did I do that? All I have done for 2 days is celebrate my birthday, eat, watch movies, etc."

Well, it didn't take long for me to figure it out. By 1 am I was 'in labor.' No, Silly! I'm not having a baby. It's a kidney stone. I am one of the lucky people in the world who gets to deal with these every couple of years. It really is like giving birth only there is no miraculous baby at the end. Just a dumb old stone. Can I just tell you I'd rather give birth to a baby over this any day? If you have never experienced this 'joyful' thing, I hope you never do. If you have, I'm so sorry. It is truly some of the worst pain you will ever feel.

I chose this photo of a boulder because that is about the size I think this stone must be!

I am on a little respite right now. It moved a couple of hours ago and I can semi-function right now. So, lucky you! You got to hear about it. Who knows how loud I might be screaming in another 10 minutes. Due to this unforseen bit of bad luck, you might not see a post from me for a couple of days. It depends on how fast this puppy decides to pass. I hope all of you have a great day WITHOUT kidney stones today!

I don't mean to laugh in your time of EXTREME pain, but I loved your post label "kidney stones". So you can go back and reference your kidney stone episodes. Poor girl and on your birthday, too. Get in bed and watch some silly Lifetime TV or Real Housewives nonsense or something. We'll miss your art, but feel better soon! :) M

Karen, this is just crappy. Elaine has experienced this and she herself said it was much worse then labor pains. OUCH I am so very sorry for your dilemma. Why don't you drink down something slippery and get that little bugger out as fast as you can. No on second thought that would probably only make you throw-up which would add immensely to your discomfort. Wish I had some helpful advise, but as you can see, that is not my strong point

Karen, you are so funny -- even in the mist of extreeme pain! I love the boulder picture. Kind of puts things in perspective!

Even more, I love your attitude. You inspire me in my artwork, in the kitchen, and in life.

Thank you for sharing yourself with the blogging world!

Christine

Sorry to hear about your pain. I had a gall stone once, and it HURT. I can't even imagine a kidney stone. I hope it passes soon, and you feel better!

Karen, I am so sorry you are having to go through that. I have never had a kidney stone but my husband has had two episodes of them. The first time we called the rescue squad and they couldn't/wouldn't help him so I put him in the car and drove him to the ER. By the time we got there a good 20 minute drive he was actually feeling better, but we went in and had all the tests and a shot to make him sleepy. The second time I again put him in the car and drove him around until he felt better. a tank of gas is cheaper than the ER visit. See if Dan is up for a drive - grins.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

Oh Karen, I'm so sorry you're going through this! I'm keeping you in my prayers! I've never experienced it, but they tell me passing stones is MUCH worse than labor. Please take care of yourself.
